State Rep. La Shawn K. Ford
encourages you to get your
High School Diploma
or
GED
Dear Friends,
Obtaining a GED opens a world of opportunities. People who work hard to earn GEDs get and keep
higher paying jobs and earn many times more money than those who do not. This is a decision for
yourself, your family and your future.
If you are ready for this challenge and a brighter future, I invite you to contact my Constituent
Service Center at (773) 378-5902 for more information. Included is a list of some of the GED
programs in the area, but my office can help you find the program that works best for you.
Sincerely,
La Shawn K. Ford

Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr., was born on November 20th,
1942, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The oldest of four
siblings, Biden graduated from the University of Delaware
and Syracuse Law School. He served on the New Castle
County Council before becoming one of the youngest
people ever elected to the United States Senate at the age
of 29.
During his 36 years in the U.S. Senate, Biden established
himself as a leader on some of our nation's most
important domestic and international issues. As the
Chairman or Senior Democrat of the Senate Judiciary
Committee for 17 years, then-Senator Biden was widely
recognized for his work on criminal justice issues, including
the landmark 1994 Crime Bill and the Violence Against
Women Act. Biden also served as Chairman of the Senate
Foreign Relations Committee, where he played a pivotal
role in shaping U.S. foreign policy. He has been at the
forefront of legislation related to terrorism, weapons of
mass destruction, post-Cold War Europe, the Middle East,
and Southwest Asia. Full details on OBAMA*BIDEN.

President Obama was born in Hawaii on August 4th,
1961, to a father from Kenya and a mother from Kansas.
Growing up, he was also raised by his grandfather, who
served in Patton's army, and his grandmother, who
worked her way up from the secretarial pool to become
middle management at a local bank.
After working his way through college with the help of
scholarships and student loans, President Obama moved
to Chicago, where he worked as an organizer to help
rebuild communities devastated by the closure of local
steel plants.
He went on to Harvard Law School, where he became the
first African-American president of the Harvard Law
Review. Upon graduation, he took a job teaching
constitutional law at the University of Chicago. He also
remained active in his community, leading a drive that
registered more than 150,000 voters in Illinois leading
up to the 1992 election. Full details on OBAMA * BIDEN.

Greetings from President Clinton!
Thanks to your generous support during our year end campaign, the new
year is bringing new hope to people across our country and throughout our
increasingly interdependent world.
We made tremendous progress this past year on strengthening economies
and health systems, promoting healthier childhoods in the United States
and Latin America, and helping communities combat climate change
through projects that also create local jobs.
In this month's newsletter, you can learn more about some of the specific
accomplishments you have helped make possible -- including providing
millions of meals to schoolchildren in Colombia, helping build sustainable
forestry projects in Cambodia, and creating new jobs in Haiti, to name a
few.
I look forward to building on our shared success and giving even more
people around the world the chance to live their dreams.
